ESFJ Personality Types and Learning Styles

ESFJ Personality Types and Learning Styles Learning Styles The professional environment today is incredibly competitive. In order to be successful, people need to be able to maintain their current workload while also constantly learning the latest new techniques or being aware of the latest developments in their field. Staying one step ahead of the competition can mean the difference between landing a job or not. As we all know, learning can be very time-consuming. That’s where studying your MBTI Test Personality Type (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Type) can help. People with different Myers Briggs Test Types learn differently, so knowing yours can help you learn faster, so you can get ahead of the pack. For example, Extraverted-Sensing-Feeling-Judging (ESFJ) personality types are problem solvers. When they see an opportunity to improve the world around them, they seize it and take immediate action. They enjoy spontaneity and are excited to see the fruits of their labor. Because of their focus on action, they learn most effectively when given the opportunity to apply new information in real-world circumstances. They often lose interest when they only consider theoretical perspectives. For example, if you are an ESFJ and you need to memorize a list of different tools or programs, try to find out when you would use each one and consider their benefits or shortcomings. You might want to form a study group where you can discuss the topic with other people. If you find yourself in a traditional, lecture-style learning environment, find small ways to improve your own learning experience. For example, you might add a column to your notes where you can jot down questions or possible applications. ESFJ in the classroom If you have ESFJs in your classroom, consider using a variety of different media, such as audio recordings, videos, and pictures, as well as traditional lecture-style teaching. ESFJs also benefit from activities in which they can improvise, negotiate, or otherwise use new information in creative and dynamic ways, especially with other people in the workplace. You might even add a time component, since they are motivated by tight deadlines. In general, it may be helpful to focus on designing learning experiences instead of just getting your students to “learn” a series of content bullet points. As a result, field trips, guest speakers, experiments and other experiences that provide opportunities for applying information to real-world contexts are all very helpful to ESFJs. For ESFJs, the goal is to not only remember information, but also to be able to apply it when it matters most. An additional benefit of using an interactive, application-focused approach is that they have built-in feedback. For example, if the goal is to build a bridge or cook a dish correctly, learners will know if they were successful if their dish tastes correct or if the bridge can carry a certain load. If you are providing feedback to an ESFJ in their career and workplace, be as specific as possible so they know what to change going forward. Changing how you learn can take time, but the personal and professional benefits are endless.

4 Tools for Preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) Among Caregivers

4 Tools for Preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) Among Caregivers Being a caregiver can be a difficult task. It is physically draining and emotionally challenging. However, helping someone who can no longer help themselves is also very rewarding There are several ways to make a caregiver’s job bearable. Having a support system is valuable for both mental and emotional wellness. Physically, there are tools and equipment to simplify the job and make it easier on the body. Caregivers have a high risk of injuries such as musculoskeletal disorders or MSDs because they are required often to bend over, squat, and lift to support their patients. Here are some tools to help prevent MSDs among caregivers. Stand Aid A stand aid is simply a piece of equipment that helps a patient with limited mobility to stand up from a sitting position. Without a stand aid, both patient and caregiver can suffer from injuries caused by repeated lifting and pulling motions. A padded sling goes around the back and underneath the arms of the patient and fastened with velcro, and is connected on either side of the stand aid. Once the patient is safely secured, with both feet flat on the footplates, the caregiver can use a controller to raise the hand rails. The patient can then push upward with their legs and pull with their arms to a standing position. In lieu of a motorized stand aid, there are manual models that require the user to grab a bar and pull themselves up to a standing position. Patient Lift A patient lift, sometimes called a floor or hoyer lift, is a device used to assist the transfer of a patient between a bed and a chair or other resting places. It usually uses a sling and uses electrical or hydraulic power to do the lifting. Floor lifts are useful for patients with limited mobility, and they reduce the bodily stress and chances of orthopedic injuries and MSDs on caregivers. They also reduce the number of caregiving staff needed to attend to a patient. There are usually two models of sling lifts: mobile or floor lifts, and overhead lifts which are suspended from the ceiling, mounted on walls, or attached to overhead tracks. It is critical to choose the right size of sling, as an improperly fitting one can cause further injuries. Transfer Bench Bathing can be a challenge for some patients, especially when using a bathtub. This is where a transfer bench can come in handy.   Instead of a caregiver lifting the patient into the tub, which can cause injuries to the back and other joints, the patient can simply be assisted onto a transfer bench so he or she can slide in  with minimal assistance. A basic model of a transfer bench has the user sit on the seat outside the tub, then move to the seat on the inside by lifting one leg at the time over the side of the tub. However, there are sliding transfer benches, where the seat is attached to rails, so that the user simply sits on the seat then slides to the other side. The sliding model is highly advantageous for highly dependent patients. Shower Chairs or Benches A more mobile patient can use a shower for quick baths. However, standing for prolonged periods can cause strain on the patient’s knees and result in imbalance or unsteadiness. A caregiver can also experience similar troubles, especially when he or she has to assist the patient to both stand and bathe. Using shower chairs can help improve this situation and give the patient more independence and privacy while bathing. There are physical demands that are unique to a caregiver due to the nature of the job. However, with the right tools and equipment, these physical demands can be lessened or eliminated, allowing caregivers to do their job better without the added physical strain.

Do you want to work in the Third Sector

Do you want to work in the Third Sector Here at Warwick we have recently held a “Careers in Charities, Campaigning and Volunteering event”. Four speakers from different backgrounds took part all linked by their passion and drive to “help”. Their clear advice for anyone thinking of going into the career’s sector is to get experience! Camilla and Yuan of  Warwick  Volunteers  committee  share some more insights from the different speakers. Charlotte Rook is a senior coordinator from the Personal Support Unit (PSU), an independent charity that supports families going through civil legal proceedings without legal help. Her advice for those wanting to work in the third sector is to be realistic. Remuneration will be lower than for an equivalent job in other sectors. This is primarily due to the uncertain funding received by third sector organisations. There are, however, benefits of working in the third sector: creative work and good employers. The work is never mundane and employers are often generous in approving holiday requests. If you want to find work youll need to demonstrate  good communication skills and experience in the sector. You’ll be expected to empathise and deliver client support. Masami Duble, works as a recovery support officer at Mosaic Clubhouse, which ‘organises support to help people living with mental illness to re-join the worlds of friendship, employment and education’. Masami said he learnt what motivates people to work and how to engage with others at his first internship at PSU. He had intended to become a lawyer but the internship changed his mind and he stayed on in the charities sector. Work experience or an internship in the sector you’re interested in is important, and Masami was able to receive payment for his through a Warwick scheme, (if you are at Warwick contact Careers for more information). Masami advocates working in smaller charities because you can get involved in lots of different areas. In larger charities you might find yourself pigeonholed into one department. Don’t be afraid to question your direction and keep an open mind â€" the sector is huge with many roles and opportunities; the environment keeps changing. Keep an e ye out for opportunities that will help you stand out from the crowd. This could involve anything from having a part-time job, to being on an exec at university or volunteering in your spare time â€" everything counts.   Masami said Go beyond books, show you can communicate well with others. Employers want to know you’re sociable and are capable of putting yourselves “out there”. Maureen Johnson is a career social worker from Freedom Fostering. She interviews for new staff and doesn’t just want to hear that candidates want to help people. She is looking for passion and an understanding of the difference you could be making in people’s lives. Maureen deals with complicated issues every day. She has a commitment and desire to help people but increasingly, a knowledge of complex government systems and how they impact  people’s lives is important. Small mistakes may have life-changing effects on people, you have to be constantly on your toes. You’re constantly learning in the Third Sector! Social work is not a 9-5 job, and Maureen spoke about the importance of being able to ‘switch off’ at the end of the day. You need resilience, a life outside of work and a sense of humour.   There are many positives to social work, your critical reasoning skills develop and you come to understand how people behave. You work as part of a team and are always learning about yourself as your stamina and energy are tested. Your heart must be in the job, you’ve got to be a glass half-full sort of person, always able to  find something positive, even in the most hopeless of cases. Joelle Fitch from the Alzheimer’s Society works in the New Partnership Office as a corporate fundraiser. Prior to her current role, she was actively involved during her undergraduate years at the University of Warwick, as a Widening Participation Ambassador, Student Calling Supervisor and Warwick Student Ambassador. The experiences from the positions honed her communication and management skills and ignited a desire to be part of the charitable sector. Her current role includes fundraising from corporations. Resilience is vital because corporations often reject sponsorship proposals.
